2007 Anaesthesia curriculum and assessments

NOTE: All trainees begining ACCS in 2010 should follow the 2010 curriculum and assessment schedule. Trainees starting ACCS prior to 2010 should consult their educational supervisor or deanery contact to clarify which curriculum and assessment schedule to follow for thier anaesthesia and ICM CT2 year.

While in Anaesthesia, ACCS trainees should follow the relevant section of the ACCS curriculum, found on pages 119 - 156.

Trainees in Anaesthesia are expected to pass the Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) after approximately 3 months of training. ACCS trainees doing more than 3 months training in anaesthesia will follow a syllabus defined by Sections 4 to 6, 9, 14 and 16 to 21 of The CCT in Anaesthesia (part II: Basic Level (for ST / CT years 1 and 2) Training and Assessment).

The following documents contain the Anaesthesia basic level curriculum and supporting documents in full, though note these are in greater detail than is required for ACCS alone.

Anaesthesia Assessments pre-2010

Anaesthetic Competencies

ACCS trainees in anaesthesia must complete the Anaesthesia Competencies as detailed in the curriculum regardless of parent speciality. The initial assessment will be the Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) at around three months. Following this trainees should ensure completion of a wider selection of anaesthetic competencies by following the syllabus defined by Sections 4 to 6, 9, 14 and 16 to 21 of The CCT in Anaesthesia (part II: Basic Level Training and Assessment) 2007 Curriculum document (see 2007 curriculum section of this website).

Work Place Assessments

In addition to the RCoA requirements above, trainees must complete work place assessments to demonstrate further competencies and act as a basis for formative assessment and appraisal. The requirement for work place assessment forms below was initially set prior to the 2010 curriculum release. If following the pre-2010 curriculum ans assessment schedule please check your current WPA requirements for ARCP with your educational supervisor or deanery as these may have changed considerably.
