Acute Medicine Assessments

From the summer 2007 trainees on Core Medical Training (CMT) and Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) programmes will be expected to use the JRCPTB e-portfolio. This web-based portfolio will provide a record of progress through training and the acquisition of competencies, based on the relevant curricula. The e-portfolio includes facilities for direct recording of workplace based assessments, records of appraisal and ARCP outcomes.

The eportfolio is divided into the following sections. Each needs to be completed alongside a separate clinical logbook while in the medical module of ACCS.

  • Personal development plan
  • Self assessment
  • Induction appraisal, midpoint meeting, final meeting and supervisors report
  • Work place assessment forms
  • Reflective practice: for clinical encounters, educational sessions, audit, research & clinical governance - these can be 'linked' to areas of the curriculum
  • Record of competence - this must be completed by your supervisor

It is primarily the trainee’s responsibility to enter information into the e-portfolio but supervisors also have access to shared parts of the portfolio and have a responsibility to record appraisal outcomes and sign off the record of competence.

Access to the e-portfolio will be provided, initially at least, via deaneries and postgraduate education centres. Trainees, supervisors and administrators who have previously used the Foundation e-portfolio (or CMT pilot e-portfolio in Mersey deanery) should continue to use the same username.

Acute Medicine Workplace Assessment Checklist

The following document is a competency checklist for the acute medicine workplace assessments produced by the Royal College of Physicians and the ACCS committee. Trainees need o download a copy of this form and use it as evidence to be presented at their ARCP.
