For Acute Medicine trainees

ACCS training for those with a parent speciality of acute medicine has changed considerably over the past three years. Trainees appointed before 2010 were offered a two year training programme comprising of the first generic two years of the ACCS programme and would then be required to compete for an ST3 training post in general or acute medicine. Trainees appointed to begin ACCS from 2010 will embark on a three year training programme encompassing a third year specific to acute medicine. On completion of 3 years of ACCS training, trainees will be eligible for appointment to the GIM, AIM or acute medical specialty CCT programme at the start of ST3.

ePortfolio

Only ACCS trainees with acute medicine as a parent speciality will be expected to use the JRCPTB e-portfolio. This web-based portfolio will provide a record of progress through training and the acquisition of competencies, based on the relevant curricula. The e-portfolio includes facilities for direct recording of workplace based assessments, records of appraisal and ARCP outcomes. Access to the eportfolio is organised on a deanery level and further details can be found on the JRCPTB website.

Exams

AM trainees will normally be expected to have completed MRCP 1 before entering CT3 and to have passed MRCP2 & PACES by the end of CT3. The requirement for acquisition of MRCP(UK) prior to entry to ST3 is likely to become mandatory in 2010. Please see the MRCP website for further details.
